It's Prime Time for IoT as Amazon Teams Up with Bsquare

We all know it's hard to scale the IoT and the Industrial IoT (IIoT) considering the massive and growing number of connected things, particularly given the still fragmented types of devices, sensors, actuators, applications, security software, management platforms, cross-tech, cross-platform and geographically distributed implementations.

In a move to help simplify provisioning, registering and managing "en masse" Bsquare, an IIoT company that has been pioneering since it was established before the turn of the century - over two decades ago - is blending up their DataV Manage application with AWS IoT services including AWS IoT Device Management, AWS IoT Core, and AWS Greengrass.

The ability to provision, control, monitor, and update software and device specific content across millions of connected assets has now become what the companies announced is a "turnkey-solution integrated with Amazon Web Services (AWS) IoT services that’s designed to help organizations rapidly on-board and manage millions of connected devices."

“This initiative is the perfect blending of the strength, scale, and security of AWS with the time-to-value advantages of Bsquare DataV Manage,” said Bsquare CEO Jerry Chase. “We look forward to working closely with AWS to improve business outcomes for our mutual customers by fully utilizing data to manage complex devices—automatically and at scale.”

Together the two companies will go to market with near real-time, network-wide visibility into asset health, as well as two-way data communication. Controls baked into the combined solution include provisioning and inventory, as well as software, content, and configuration updates all from a centralized location.

Amazon's cloud brings it together on an enterprise level across geographies, which global, distributed enterprises value.

“The DataV suite of software applications is designed for businesses that want to leverage the vast benefits of IoT, but lack the resources and time required to build custom solutions,” said Dave McCarthy, Senior Director, Products at Bsquare. “DataV Manage makes it possible to manage and control every asset in the field or on the factory floor while leveraging the scale, security, and high availability of AWS. By deploying a prebuilt and tested solution, businesses can accelerate their adoption of IoT.”

According to Gartner’s October 2017 Market Trends: IoT Endpoints Will Need New Technologies to Achieve Scale “by 2020, a quarter of IoT projects will be at risk of failing because of excessive device management costs.” The report continues, “lowering device management costs across the life cycle (install, operation, and retirement) is essential in achieving sufficient return on investment in the IoT.”

DataV Manage user interface is designed specifically for the needs of line of business managers. Its dashboards consolidate all key information about devices allowing teams to take action on insights. Device models and advanced workflows can be created without code to further speed time to value in an IoT deployment.
