Another Smart IIoT Collab: Rockwell Automation and NVIDIA to Harness Omniverse Cloud APIs and Industrial-Scale Digital Twins

Here’s a name we’ve heard before:

Rockwell Automation.

Rockwell is a renowned provider of next-gen IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) manufacturing solutions. We featured Rockwell in a handful of articles last year; its support of Falcon Group via the ThingWorx IIoT platform, its acquisition of Clearpath Robotics for transformative autonomous production logistics, its additional strategic acquisition of Verve Industrial Production (a cybersecurity software and services company that helps businesses ensure reliable security for industrial control systems), and we covered the Rockwell-Microsoft partnership aimed at accelerating industrial automation design and development through the power of generative AI (GenAI).

Long story short? Rockwell Automation is no stranger to smart collaboration.

And in that vein, we have the following update:

Rockwell Automation recently announced that it is officially collaborating with NVIDIA, as well.

The plan is simple: Accelerate next-gen industrial architecture for manufacturers via generative AI (GenAI), autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and more.

As one Rockwell representative wrote, “Manufacturing is a $15-trillion global industry that touches everything humans need to survive and thrive — from clean water to food, life-saving drugs and therapies, sustainable energy, mobility, and more. Rockwell plans to evolve the industry by creating the factory of the future, making it easier for automation customers to digitalize industrial processes.” The rep also touched on factory-of-the-future types of ideas, including enhanced sensing capabilities with machine vision, accelerated compute capabilities for control systems with deeper visibility, advanced simulations equipped with learning agents; the list goes on.

In the meantime, Rockwell specifically plans to further integrate NVIDIA’s Omniverse Cloud Platform-as-a-Service APIs with Emulate3D by Rockwell Automation, i.e. dynamic digital twin software for sharpening operator skills and building better systems for solving production real-world production challenges. (This also offers users data interoperability and RTX-enabled visualization.)

Per Jordan Reynolds, Vice President of Artificial Intelligence and Autonomy at Rockwell Automation:

“Our work with NVIDIA is poised to help accelerate the future of industrial operations and create value across our portfolio of software, hardware, and services—from the cloud to the factory floor.”

And per Rev Lebaredian, Vice President of Omniverse and Simulation Technology at NVIDIA:

“The demand for the accelerated computing needed to create, simulate, and operate large-scale digital twins is rising. Rockwell will integrate NVIDIA Omniverse Cloud APIs with its Emulate3D digital twin application to help make factory analysis, including operations and simulation, easier and more predictive than ever.”
