Readers, it’s finally that time — the Industrial IoT Conference is officially upon us!
From today, February 11 through Thursday, February 13, we expect thousands of attendees to join us here at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This Industrial IoT Conference is part of the #TECHSUPERSHOW experience, which also features IoT Evolution Expo, the Smart City Event, Generative AI Expo and much more. Already underway are informative sessions led by industry experts, networking activities, and tech demos in the recently expanded exhibit hall.
Speaking of conference sessions, I attended my first one this morning. Here are some quick details:
The session, "Factory of the Future: Manufacturing Lessons from the Automotive Sector," was led by Alex Besen, founder and CEO of The Besen Group. Specializing in private networks (with 30+ years of hands-on experience in the mobile industry in North America and Europe), The Besen Group offers strategic advisory and training services, business development resources, and market research.
From the get-go, Besen made it clear that “The fortunes of automotive manufacturing are upon us.” Few industries have embraced the Industrial Internet of Things as much as the automotive industry has, and “Private 5G is laying the foundation for ultra-reliable operations that will also help us transition to a more sustainable future,” Besen said.
While we certainly can’t detail everything Besen presented to the session’s audience, we can outline the following:
- The Besen Group’s clients include MVNOs/MVNEs, CSPs, system integrators, hyperscalers, and financial institutions.
- Verticals served by the organization include agriculture, smart warehouses, military installations, and of course manufacturing.
- Besen shared specific case studies with us. (e.g. involving BMW, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, Toyota, Tesla, etc.)
- Besen also identified key areas in automotive production; optimized manufacturing processes (i.e. helping manufacturers identify inefficiencies), predictive maintenance (i.e. via sensors that flag areas of potential failure before teams experience undue downtime), and supply chain management, overall.
Lastly, the audience was taken through the reasons why “Industry 4.0 is on the verge of revolution,” per Besen. He spoke to the importance of 5G integrations, the necessity of modern mobility solutions (again, bearing in mind sustainability-focused initiatives), and the broader impact of private 5G networks on IIoT.
“Improved automation and robotics, enhanced data flow and processing, next-gen connectivity for smart factories, quality control in precision manufacturing, support for autonomous vehicles and digital twin technologies, remote monitoring, and secure data transmission through robust cybersecurity are all crucial to the flexibility and scalability of automotive today,” Besen added. “If you’re looking for low latency, reliability, and high-capacity systems, it’s being made reality right now in automotive. It’s truly an exciting time.”
This, as stated, is just one of the many sessions I’ve been stoked to talk about here at the #TECHSUPERSHOW.
