Rise of the Machines: Do the Math, Build Ecosystems

There are very few industries more interconnected than those leveraging the IoT and Industrial IoT to drive innovation, adoption and growth of connected systems. Earlier this month, MachineMetrics launched its IoT ecosystem, with manufacturers including Amazon Web Services, Hurco, Tsugami, SECO Tools, Saint Gobain, and McKinsey & Company.

This Boston, MA/USA and Northampton/UK based company is one of over 500 who have established IoT platforms, in this case “designed to drive collaboration and innovation around MachineMetrics’ unique Industrial IoT platform to improve machine performance, enhance legacy manufacturing processes, and drive new revenue streams and business models related to machines,” according to their press release.

“Our partners are key to the continued success of MachineMetrics and our customers,” said Bill Bither, MachineMetrics CEO and Co-Founder, “With an ecosystem of partners that complement and supplement our industry-leading platform, we extend and accelerate our value proposition, driving new and continuous value for our joint customers as well as our partners."

As part of the program, partners receive training, support, and promotional marketing services to help grow their business and generate value for their shared discrete manufacturing customer base.

“Those who operate a business within the manufacturing space must now enable new business models that not just insulate their companies from the industry’s variability but proliferate into a new era of Manufacturing 4.0,” said Graham Immerman, Head of Marketing for MachineMetrics, “The flexibility of the MachineMetrics platform and our data are at the nucleus of these companies' evolution. We are committed to helping them shape their own future.”

The MachineMetrics Platform is extensible at multiple levels including at the edge, via API access to data in the cloud, and through their operator interface. This provides manufacturing customers and partners the opportunity to leverage their deep domain expertise to add their own unique IP to the platform and optimize the value created for their mutual data consumers.

Machine tool builders and component providers are now able to provide advanced analytics, custom micro-services, custom work instructions, and preventative maintenance plans optimized for their customers all through MachineMetrics’ scalable, vertically integrated cloud platform.

"By analyzing data output from machine tools, we can deploy our technical experts to work closely with our customers to identify bottlenecks and other issues that lead to extended machine downtime," said Rob Keenan, President of Seco Tools North America, "MachineMetrics is the toolbox that enables Seco to take cost out of our customer's operation while improving their productivity.”

“Tsugami/Rem Sales is thrilled to partner with MachineMetrics, bringing cutting edge, disruptive technology directly into our end-users’ businesses,” explained Michael Mugno, President, Tsugami/Rem Sales. “The addition of MachineMetrics to our Swiss-turn machine platform packages allows users to collect data on machine health, production status, downtime, and so much more that they may never have known existed - bettering businesses across the industry.”

MachineMetrics counts among the machines connected to their global platform National Oilwell Varco, Snap On Tools, TE Connectivity, Hamilton Company, Gardner Denver, Hypertherm, and Fastenal.

In 2018 and 2019 they won awards for Smart Manufacturing Solution of the Year and named to Forbes “Top 25 IoT Startups of 2019” list. They are also one of 14 Amazon Web Services Industrial Software Competency Partners for Manufacturing.
