Both UScellular and Ericsson have popped up on our radars lately, so to speak. In terms of UScellular, the company partnered with MSP Expo sponsor Ooma to make Ooma’s turnkey solutions more widely available, and they also launched a next-gen 5G indoor router alongside 5G cloud solutions provider Inseego Corp. And regarding Ericsson, the telco technology and services provider’s eco-friendly 5G site in Plano, Texas anchors the company’s position as a leader in sustainable mobile networks and showcases how its teams are working to reduce emissions and integrate energy-efficient solutions into a variety of more sustainable workflows. Ericsson is also strategically collaborating with Intel to expedite the manufacturing of custom chips for the future of 5G infrastructure.
The long story short? Both UScellular and Ericsson have certainly kept busy, as of late.
That segues into news from both: UScellular and Ericsson have now teamed up in order to provide private wireless network solutions for an incredibly broad category of industry segments; Industry 4.0 manufacturing, logistics, distribution and warehouse use cases and other IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) sectors, as well as healthcare, utilities, and airports. (You know, to name a few.)
This UScellular-Ericsson announcement is a strong building block in the metaphorical wall of even stronger network solutions; previously, the two had collaborated to install Ericsson’s private 5G network at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Connected Systems Institute manufacturing research facility. This brought exceptional security and mobility to both indoor and outdoor applications, as well as easier integration of devices and business operation applications.
"UScellular is growing its private network capabilities and solutions for our enterprise customers," said Kim Kerr, Senior Vice President, Enterprise Sales and Operations for UScellular. "Ericsson's Private 5G solution and UScellular's strong coverage in markets that have established manufacturing, distribution centers and warehousing (and providing the experience of operating LTE and 5G networks) together offer a great combination and value proposition for the road ahead."
"With UScellular, we’re focused on providing commercially ready solutions designed for today's dynamic enterprise environments and engineered for the demands of complex and industrial operating environments," said David Green, Vice President and Key Account Manager, UScellular account for Ericsson North America. "We’re seeing strong momentum for private networks driven by use cases that greatly benefit from 5G connectivity. Partnering UScellular's strong coverage in markets with Ericson's turnkey solutions will unlock new opportunities for customers across industries who recognize the power of private networks."
