NEXCOM's ISA Series Fortifies Industry 4.0 Operations

By Greg Tavarez
November 28, 2023

Industry 4.0 is changing manufacturing and production. However, the increasing integration of operational technology (OT) networks exposes a growing susceptibility to cyber threats, marking a critical concern for industries reliant on these interconnected systems. This heightened risk is particularly pronounced in legacy industrial equipment, which often lacks the sophisticated security features found in more modern technology.

Outdated systems become potential entry points for malicious actors seeking to exploit vulnerabilities, therefore sensitive industrial data are at risk. And the consequences can potentially extend beyond immediate operational disruptions, encompassing financial losses and reputational damage for affected companies.

A proactive response is imperative. That is why companies operating in OT-intensive sectors are compelled to adopt robust and tailored cybersecurity strategies. A one-size-fits-all approach is inadequate; instead, a nuanced and comprehensive framework must be established to address the unique vulnerabilities inherent in OT environments.

NEXCOM, a provider of industrial IoT applications, has introduced the ISA Series, a dedicated line of OT security solutions aimed at bolstering Industry 4.0 operations. NEXCOM integrates its diverse capabilities and aims to drive digital transformation by providing innovative and quality services in vertical application markets. NEXCOM operates six global businesses, including IoT automation and robotic control for smart factories, edge AI telematics, video surveillance, digital signage for smart retail and smart cities, and network and communication.

Its ISA Series provides a comprehensive cybersecurity solution that offers robust support for diverse applications within Industry 4.0. This series consists of three purpose-driven appliances such as ISA 140, ISA 141 and ISA 142.

ISA 140 is an IoT security gateway that ensures secure connectivity for smaller-scale deployments. It acts as a protective barrier for proprietary equipment lacking updated cybersecurity software.

ISA 141 is a dual 5G/Wi-Fi security router that offers wireless broadband capabilities. It ensures uninterrupted internet access, mobile load balancing and seamless connectivity for industrial IoT devices.

ISA 142 is a high-density security gateway and switch. It is designed to support large-scale deployments, and it enhances connectivity and scalability, leveraging time-sensitive networking technology for predictable and reliable data transmission.

Fueled by Intel Atom x6000E Series processors, these devices provide better protection against cyber threats. Features such as out-of-band management make remote device monitoring and management hassle-free, minimizing disruptions to manufacturing operations.

In a smart factory setting, safeguarding key assets, segmenting essential network services and providing dependable wireless connectivity are now achievable with NEXCOM's ISA Series.
