Good afternoon, readers.
Earlier today, Digi International – a provider of assorted IoT solutions – announced a new integration that’s highly relevant to Industry 4.0 deployments.
First, a quick recap on Digi, itself. (If you’re familiar with the company, feel free to skip the next paragraph.)
Since 1985, Digi has pioneered wireless solutions. Before the Internet of Things became mainstream, Digi built M2M and basic IoT devices. That said, it didn’t take long for the company to adapt to network standards as they began to rapidly evolve. This allowed the teams at Digi to pursue the rigorous optimization of data communications around countless advanced IoT protocols and emerging technologies. (e.g. RF modems to gateways, cellular routers, networking devices, embedded SOM, SBCs, etc.) Fast-forward to present day, and Digi continues to offer value across IoT/IIoT markets – read previous articles I’ve written about Digi; its collab with Telit Cinterion, the debut of the Digi Connect Sensor XRT-M, the strategic change-ups to its leadership roster, and even a full-fledged interview piece I penned after speaking one-on-one with Ben Tucker, Digi International’s Director of Product Management for the company’s Infrastructure Management division.
All of the stories above are found on IoT Evolution World.
Today’s is here on Industrial IoT News, though.
Why?
Because Digi has announced its latest work with security tech and Networking 2.0 company Atsign – namely, the availability of Atsign’s NoPorts on Digi’s IX40 cellular routers. This integration, according to this morning’s official announcement, “empowers Industry 4.0 deployments with a robust and secure remote access solution, safeguarding critical edge infrastructure.”
Below, some bite-sized context to tie all this together:
- NoPorts by Atsign is zero-trust-remote-access-with-no-attack-surfaces in a bottle, so to speak. It enables users to manage their devices anywhere with end-to-end encryption, it fortifies VPNs by eliminating man-in-the-middle attacks and zero day vulnerabilities, and it transforms capabilities in smart manufacturing, 5G device management and more.
- Digi IX40 cellular routers are purpose-built for Industry 4.0 use cases; industrial automation, advanced robotics, asset monitoring and predictive maintenance, etc. Fully integrated with Digi Remote Manager (Digi RM), these improve security and scalability, support 5G/LTE connectivity, and other powerful features to help customers quickly and cost-effectively take advantage of intelligence at the edge.
"We're thrilled to collaborate with Digi to bring NoPorts to Digi IX40 cellular routers,” said Barbara Tallent, co-founder and CEO at Atsign. “This integration empowers organizations to leverage the power of edge computing while maintaining robust security at the critical first point of connection."
"Digi is committed to providing secure and reliable connectivity solutions for Industry 4.0 applications,” said Vitaly Kurduban, Senior Product Manager of Industrial Cellular Solutions at Digi International. “Integrating NoPorts with Digi IX40 routers strengthens our offering by delivering unparalleled security for remote access, enabling our customers to confidently manage their distributed edge infrastructure."
NoPorts is now available for purchase with Digi IX40 routers. Read more
