In one hand, we have Advantech. The Advantech team is comprised of self-described “enablers of a truly intelligent planet.” With numerous industry-spanning solutions (i.e. for energy and utilities, industrial equipment manufacturing and servers, smart transportation systems, etc.), Advantech’s vision involves its business partners and loyal clients embracing intelligent systems and embedded platforms in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) space. Advantech promotes IoT/IIoT hardware and software, and it works with innovators around the globe to co-create business ecosystems that accelerate the capabilities of real-time industrial intelligence.
In the other hand, we have Qualcomm. With its own intelligence-centric goals, Qualcomm aims to bring intelligent computing everywhere. “You already interact with products made possible by Qualcomm nearly every day,” the company wrote, “including 5G-enabled smartphones that double as pro-level cameras and gaming devices, smarter vehicles and cities, and the technology behind the smart, connected factories that manufactured your latest purchase.” With relied-upon connectivity solutions (even in difficult-to-access remote areas), Qualcomm strives to transform how we work, live and communicate to stay more intelligently connected.
With all this in mind, let’s take a moment and put these hands together, so to speak:
Earlier this week, Advantech and Qualcomm announced their new collaborative mission — break new ground in Wi-Fi 7 solutions by developing products specifically for IIoT applications, such as the AIW-173.
Here’s some quick context. The AIW-173 is a flagship Wi-Fi 7 model from Advantech, and it features the Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 Mobile Connectivity System. By teaming up to develop and enhance sector-driven features like fast-roaming, softAP, and Wake on WLAN from S5, the two companies are putting forth a reliable solution that addresses many demands from diverse industrial markets.
“We are so excited to collaborate with Advantech in delivering cutting-edge Wi-Fi 7 solutions that empower the next generation of industrial applications," stated Shishir Gupta, Senior Director, Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies. "Our joint commitment to technological advancement fuels our anticipation for continued collaboration, driving innovative and competitive solutions to market."
Jerry Chiang, Director at Advantech, followed Gupta’s lead with his own comment.
“Advantech's AIW product portfolio offers an exceptional range of wireless solutions designed for industrial applications," Chiang explained. "We meticulously develop products to include Wi-Fi, GPS/GNSS, cellular, Bluetooth, and antennas, all tailored to meet the unique demands of industrial environments. With Qualcomm, we will continue to deliver."
At the time of this article’s publication, the first Wi-Fi 7 product these two organizations are working on will be debuted in Q4 later this year.
