Honeywell, Qualcomm, and an Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)-focused team-up.
That’s why you’re reading this, yeah?
Let’s break it down:
Honeywell’s business M.O. is aligned with what the company calls “three powerful megatrends” — automation, energy transition, and aviation. A trusted partner to many enterprise operations today, Honeywell a.) helps teams resolve some of the toughest challenges, and b.) provides actionable, data-driven solutions for IIoT applications involving construction, manufacturing, automotive, mining, renewables and energy storage, power and water, onshore and offshore production, and so on. If the mission calls for industrial innovation and leads businesses towards a truly intelligent, safe, secure and sustainable world, Honeywell is in.
Then, Qualcomm. With its own intelligence-centric goals, Qualcomm aims to deliver intelligent computing everywhere. With highly relied-upon advanced connectivity solutions (as well as high-performance/low-power compute, on-device intelligence and more that’s geared towards industrial engineering, research and development), Qualcomm strives to transform how we work, live and communicate as industries continue to transform.
And earlier this month, Honeywell and Qualcomm announced an official expansion of their collaboration.
The goal?
Develop new industrial-grade, AI-enabled solutions for the energy sector.
As part of this collab, Honeywell intends to incorporate Qualcomm’s connectivity and AI capabilities into existing AI-powered applications. (e.g. the Honeywell Field Process Knowledge System, or PKS)
Through this integration, Honeywell’s Field PKS will reportedly be, quote, “better able to help provide connectivity to remote corners of plant and manufacturing facilities and enable greater data capture and analytics at the edge.”
“The combination of Qualcomm Technologies’ portfolio of low-power, industry-leading AI-enabled processors with Honeywell’s extensive technologies will enable field workers and service technicians to work smarter, help make IIoT assets more efficient, and improve the overall performance of the energy process industry with new sensors for monitoring process parameters, environmental conditions and more,” explained Pramesh Maheshwari, President of Honeywell Process Solutions.
Nakul Duggal, Group General Manager of Automotive, Industrial, Embedded IoT, and Cloud Computing at Qualcomm Technologies added to Maheshwari’s remarks.
“We are committed to developing on-device GenAI-powered solutions that will propel the expansion of the connected intelligent edge to help drive digital transformation,” Duggal said. “Our collaboration with Honeywell enhances how industries and businesses interact with their environments through intelligent and responsive technology. Our recent acquisition of Sequans' 4G IoT technology also adds to Qualcomm Technologies' broad portfolio, further strengthening our technology offerings for Industrial IoT applications."
